Kazu has never been special. His mother and father obviously didn't think him worthwhile enough to stick around and bother to raise his sister and himself; he was never one of the cool kids, and he was never one of the jocks. His fondest memory of his childhood is getting beat up near constantly by one Ikki Minami, the meanest bully in the entire class, and how he got so pissed off about it every time. As he put it, Ikki forced him to have to strive. Of course, Ikki still kicked his ass every time. Kazu never actually managed to beat him.

And now Kazu is Ikki's best friend. There's something to be said about accepting your lot in life. Kazu does a lot of that.

He's nobody special. He's nothing spectacular, like Ikki; he's not even a walking offense to the term "mankind" like Onigiri. He looks up to the sky and it's too big for him to reach, unless he's backed into an alley and the walls cut it down to size.

But back him into an alley, corner him, leave him no room to pretend the world is far away and unconcerned with his fate - and then Kazu will stop pretending he's no one important, nothing special. Kazu's road is a road of heat and pressure, and it's only through stress that he can dream.

Though he feels uncertain of his future and all too aware of his own pointlessness, he is steadfast and stalwart, and even if the whole world assembled against Kogarasumaru, he would stand by his team (by Ikki) because he would be standing by his friends, and for all his fears, he could never let his friends down. It is for their sake that he would burn down all comers. He wavers, like air in the summer heat, but he never truly falters, because he always has someone there to look back on and realize he has a reason to stand firm.

He only thinks he has to follow another's wings to reach for the sky; he doesn't yet see through the heat-haze where his own road will lead him. Soon, though - soon he will understand, whether he can admit it or not, that he is special.

As a note: He has a pet chihuahua named Chiwa, as timid as he is ... except around Ikki's pet crow, Kuu.
